The topic this week is: Which character do you think should have been played by a different actor?
Sorry in advance for this, because I feel a rant coming on :p
Dumbledore (Harris vs Gambon) has already been discussed, and I totally agree, so I’ll skip to my big pet peeve about casting: the previous generation!
The Potters died when they were 21 years old, which means Sirius, Remus, Severus, Peter, etc. should have been in their early 30s when Harry started at Hogwarts. Alan Rickman was 55 when the first movie came out, David Thewlis was about 40 for POA, Gary Oldman was about 45, and so on.
I could understand casting people a little older because they all had rough lives, and that can age people, I’m sure. Especially for Sirius (having spent 12 years in Azkaban), and Remus (living as a werewolf most of his life).
**I want to say that I think Alan Rickman, David Thewlis, and Gary Oldman were amazing and played their characters so well.**
I think the casting for Harry’s parents was the worst, though, because they were so young when they were murdered, but they looked much older in the movies. Obviously it would have been tragic no matter how old they were, but I know it’s really shocked a lot of people to learn how young James and Lily really were when they died, because the only image they had in their mind was from the movies. (Is it cheating to not pick a single character and actor?)
Is there a character you think should have been played by a different actor?
