Fandom Mashups: June 18th

fandom mashup.png

This is a weekly meme created by Lunar Rainbows. Every week there’s a new scenario and you choose 5 characters from 5 different fandoms to complete the task.

The topic this week is: The Moon is full, bright and it’s making you feel dreamy so you’ve decided to stay up all night and gaze at it.  Which characters do you think would want to enjoy this evening with you?

My picks:

giphy1

Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter– I know, totally cliche, right? But even ignoring her name, doesn’t moongazing sound exactly like the kind of thing Luna would be down for?

giphy
The Creature/Frankenstein’s Monster from Penny Dreadful–
Why? Because he’s had a rough life with too few beautiful things, but he can still appreciate beauty, and I think he would be content to just have people willing to spend time with him. (I have a serious soft spot for any portrayal of Frankenstein’s monster/”monster,” but this one in particular :/ )

giphy2

Sookie Stackhouse from the Southern Vampire Mysteries/True Blood–
Assuming we could make it a “No uninvited supes, especially vamps, allowed” event, I think miss Stackhouse might enjoy actually being out in the moonlight without worrying about becoming someone’s snack. (We’d also have to figure out some way for her to not be bombarded by our inner thoughts, but whatever.)

giphy3

Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice– I can see her being cool with hanging out, staring at the moon, and maybe writing (or reading) some dark poetry or something.

giphy4
Regina Mills from Once Upon a Time– Why her? Because she’s had a really crappy time, and she’s always stressed, she’s changed and grown a ton, and I kind of just want to take her to a year long spa retreat, but a night of just chilling under the moon, not being allowed to worry about anything, etc. will have to do.

Who would you take moongazing?

  1. I couldn’t resist going with Luna either! Beyond her obvious name she really does strike me as the kind of person who would LOVE gazing up at the moon for hours on end ♥ Frankenstein’s Monster is a really good one too! I never would have thought of him! Same goes for Lydia!! I love Regina too so I’d definitely be up to spending more time with her 🙂 GREAT selection^^

  2. I really appreciate that you included Caliban in this list. He did some regrettable things in his life (like that thing with his “little brother”), but overall his life has been quite miserable and he deserves a lot of sympathy.

    1. (It took me a minute to remember him being Caliban *facepalm* I just remember him naming himself John Clare.) I loved the PD portrayal of the entire Frankenstein story because, even though it wasn’t exactly true to the book, I think they captured the feelings between Frankenstein/his creation better than any other I’ve ever seen. I just want to hug him (Caliban/John/Creature) and read poetry to him and show him lovely things because he had such an awful life with so little kindness. Oh wow, I can seriously babble about this, sorry! :/

      1. Quite alright! I only found out about the show this year and I’m so sad that it’s only three seasons long! I’m on the last season now and I’m apprehensive about how it’s going to end. Nothing looks good for anyone involved.

I forgot about his John Claire alter ego. Oops! The Frankenstein story was definitely different but truly interesting. Victor was a strange man who still made a lot of mistakes, but even he I felt pity for because he tried sometimes to be better than his story, but sadly things worked against him, like his own creations, which in reality is his own faults coming back to haunt him.

        1. I found out about it a while back, but I didn’t start watching it until it was all on Netflix. I’m really sad it was only three seasons, too. I hope you enjoy the rest of it!

I have no excuse for forgetting because I’m rewatching it right now and just saw the Caliban episode yesterday haha. I agree, about Victor. I always *wanted* to feel bad for him, but this show was the first time I really felt anything remotely nice about him. I like that they made him sympathetic, but not a victim. They didn’t make him a misunderstood great guy, they made him a flawed, very human, character.

Who’s your favorite character so far?

          1. Oh, that’s a hard one. Everyone has something screwed up about them, which I think is actually good. There’s no clear cut “good guy” like you’d think there would be. Maybe Vanessa, if we’re going with main characters. Her story never seems done, there are always new facets to uncover, more darker and terrible than the last.

As for secondary characters, Brona was one, but after she became Lily I think she changed completely and became someone else, with a different personality. However, this might also have been a “good” move because it’s letting her fight back against the brutality she’s lived through as a mortal woman.

I’m just into season three, right after Ethan’s history has been revealed by his father. That was such a deep down, heart crushing sad story. After that we understand what he’s had to live with and try to repent for. It really doesn’t help that he’s got Hecate around. :/

            1. I love that about the show, too. It’s refreshing to not really have totally good/totally bad guys, and actually have some multifaceted personalities. It’s more true to how life is, I think.

I love Vanessa, too, but I also think Brona was probably one of my favorites. I really liked the more hardened, vengeful person she became as Lily, but I loved her more as Brona. I also loved Joan, even though she was only in (I think) one episode. Oh and Mr. Lyle! There were just so many great characters, imo.

Oh man, that was such a heartbreaking thing to learn about, and I felt so awful for him. He’s been the tortured character for the whole show, and it was satisfying to learn why, finally, but also awful.
