The Spoopy Memes Book Tag

Spoopy Memes Book Tag

You guys, I am so excited to do this tag haha. And, I was actually tagged for this one, yay!

This tag was created by Emily over at Embuhleeliest (thanks for tagging me!!), and I think it’s fantastic because I love memes (probably too much, but especially the spoopy ones 😛 ), I love books, and I love Halloween.

The rules:

  • Link back to Emily’s post
  • Use the banner if you want, and copy the memes

Time to get spooky! What books will you be reading to celebrate this time of year?

So many. Well, probably. I think if I had to narrow it down to just 2-3, my top picks would be The Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury, re-reading The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, and maybe The Family Plot by Cherie Priest.

The Halloween Tree
The Haunting of Hill House
The Family Plot

Do you put up decorations for Halloween? If so, describe them! Even better, show them!

Oh yeah, even if it’s just a couple of jack-o-lanterns, I always have something. I just made a wreath for the first time ever (no picture yet because I think it might be horrible haha) and I’m going to put it on my door this weekend, probably. I also need to check my orange string lights to see if enough still work to line a window or two, with some grey or black cheesecloth fabric I picked up at a dollar store. I’m planning to try DIY-ing a few other things, but I’m not fully settled on exactly what just yet. I also got a couple of creepy ghost…doll?…things I randomly found at a grocery store, and I’m trying to figure out where to put them. Maybe in windows, peering through some “blood” stained cheesecloth.

What is the scariest book you’ve ever read? What made it so scary?

The Handmaid's Tale

I couldn’t pick horror for this one, because none have really, truly scared me. I might get mildly freaked out for a few minutes, but that’s it. I guess maybe The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood? It’s terrifying because of how realistic it is, and how close to home it hits. I didn’t love this book (or hate it), but it definitely stuck with me.

What’s the last book you read that truly shocked you, made your jaw drop, or made you chuck the book across the room?

The Silent Patient

Probably The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. I did not see the end coming until it was already being revealed.

What’s a book that’s fallen out of the spotlight that you still really like and try get people to read?

The Accident Season

I’m not sure if it was ever really in the spotlight (I don’t remember it getting a ton of hype, at least), but The Accident Season by Moïra Fowley-Doyle is so underrated in my opinion. (Plus, it would be a great pick for Halloween month, especially if you don’t want something scary, but more like kinda creepy at times magical realism.)

Are you dressing up this year? If so, what as? If not, what would be your costume if you were?

Yesss! I always dress up, even if it’s super simple. My original plan this year was to be Belle (not the yellow/gold dress), but that fell through for several reasons, so now I’m desperately trying to come up with something else. I might be a zombie since I’ve only kind of done that once, and that was almost 20 years ago. Or I might fall back on being a vampire. I’m really trying to think of something bookish, but I’m kinda stuck :/

What is your opinion on the word ‘spoopy’, and memes that follow its theme?

I love it. I remember when it all began (*has golden days of Tumblr flashbacks*), and I think it’s entertaining. Is it kind of stupid? Sure, but in the good, fun kind of way.

No pressure, but I’m going to tag:

Siobhan | Halei | Adele | Meggan | Amanda

And anyone else who wants to do it 🙂

    1. This tag was so much fun 😀

It really is a hot mess haha. I keep forgetting to attach a ribbon to hang it from, but after I do that, I might post a picture 😛 It has some dark grey cheesecloth stuff covering the body of it, then some ribbons and black fake roses and some fake spiders. It could be worse, but I think it’s pretty obvious it’s a first attempt at DIY-ing a wreath haha.
