My plan was to get some posts started today, so I would just need to finish up and post them, but that didn’t work out. So, I’m late (again) in getting a post out.
The Halloween Creatures tag was created by Keep Reading Forward. I did this tag last year and really liked it, so I’ve been planning to do it again this year. One week before Halloween seems like the perfect time, so, here we go!
A Magical Character or Book.
The Okay Witch by Emma Steinkellner was a super cute middle grade graphic novel about a young witch first discovering her power. If you like (the original) Sabrina the Teenage Witch, definitely check this out.
The Perfect Book to Read at Night.
While it isn’t particularly scary, I think Winterwood by Shea Ernshaw is a good nighttime book.
A Book that Truly Shocked You.
I’m going to say American Panda by Gloria Chao because I’m not a huge fan of contemporaries in general, and usually less so with YA. This was so cute and funny, though, and I had a great time reading it.
A Dark, Evil Character.
I can’t remember his name now, but the guy who kept Genevieve captive in Highlander Most Wanted by Maya Banks. True freaking evil. (Mini review here.)
A Character that Should Never Have Died.
I don’t think I can answer this with a newer book without potential spoilers, so I’m just going to say Hedwig.
A Book that Made You “Hungry” for More.
Ooh The Bone Houses by Emily Lloyd-Jones! I am glad it’s a stand-alone, but I absolutely loved this book and wanted mooooore!
A Character that You Would Protect at All Cost.
There are so many, but I’m going to say Portia from Alyssa Cole’s Reluctant Royals series. I love her so much, and I just want her to be happy.
A Book that Sucked the Life Out of You.
I’m sorry, but Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir. I wanted and expected to love this book so much, but I really did not have a good time with it
A Book that Still Haunts You.
Okay, the book as a whole doesn’t, but there’s one scene from My Best Friend’s Exorcism by Grady Hendrix (reviewed here) that I can not get out of my head.
A Book that Really Scared You.
So no book has ever really scared me, but The Luminous Dead by Caitlin Starling did freak me out a few times.
A Character You Have a Bone to Pick With.
A few of the boys and men from Victoria Schwab’s The Near Witch, ugh.
A Book You Would Preserve Throughout Time.
Sawkill Girls by Claire Legrand! I absolutely loved this book (gushed about it here).
A Cover too Scary to Look At.
I’m going to say 30 Days of Night, vol. 1 by Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith. I love this cover (still haven’t read it, though), but it is kinda creepy.
The Monster Mash
It’s Fun to Be with Friends on Halloween! Tag Your Friends!
I’m not going to tag anyone because I know a lot of people have already done this one in the past, but if you want to do it, you’re tagged!
