August 30th: Favorite Bromances
— I think we have done this topic before in the distant past, but who doesn’t love a good bromance? Bromance = platonic relationship between two characters who identify as male.

In no particular order…

17675462

Richard Campbell Gansey III &…Adam Parrish, Noah Czerny, and Ronan Lynch from The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater– I can’t choose and won’t choose just one! I love his relationship with all three of them.

22055262

Rhy & Kell Maresh from the Shades of Magic trilogy–
Just ❤ Ugh. I love them and how much they love each other and have each other’s backs. (They were raised as brothers, basically, but whatever, I’m still counting them.)

7171637

Jem Carstairs & Will Herrondale from The Infernal Devices trilogy by Cassandra Clare–
I hated the first book, but throughout the trilogy I loved Jem & Will. I’m not still crying, you are 😥

giphy4Sherlock Holmes & John Watson from the Sherlock books/adaptations– I’ve only read the first 3(?) Sherlock books (loved them), but I also really liked the RDJ/Jude Law movies, and the BBC show. (I actually almost used House & Wilson because I loved the medical Sherlock interpretation so freaking much.)

77115

Fezzik & Inigo Montoya from The Princess Bride (movie)– I’ve blocked out my memories of the book because I hated it, but I freaking love the movie, and I loved Fezzik and Inigo. (I couldn’t find a gif, so the book cover it is.) Shoutout to husband for reminding me of them!

Do you have any favorite bromances?

August 16th: Characters’ Fitness Routines You Want
— This can be interpreted a bunch of different ways! Fitness comes in many different packages. This can be about characters who are super fast, strong, agile, good at dancing, good at climbing, athletes, or foodies! Whatever it means to you. This is inspired by those routines you see in magazines for actors, but with more of an open mind and less body shaming 🙂

I really thought this would be an easy topic, but it turned out to be a bit of a challenge. I ended up going with 4 book characters, and one TV show character. In no particular order…

3

George or Fred Weasley from Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling– Why? Because I always wanted to be a Beater. I knew I’d suck as a Seeker, probably as a Keeper, and I don’t fancy being a Chaser (although it would be my second choice of positions if I got to try out for Quidditch). But being a Beater? Heck yeah!

23437156

Inej Ghafa from the Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo– I have all the grace of a drunken hippo at this point, but I’d love to be able to move like Inej. (I actually used to be stealthy, and an agile, balance beam loving, climb ALL the things! kind of kid, but then I broke stuff and now I’m an old lady.) Plus, all the knives!

22055262
Delilah Bard from the Shades of Magic series by V.E. Schwab– I’m not even sure what to say about this one because there’s several aspects to Lila and her physical abilities. Plus, again, knives! (Apparently I have a thing for characters with knives, idk.)

28187
Almost anyone from Camp Half Blood from the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan– Learning to fight, chariot races, capture the flag, and so much more! (I would die so fast probably.)

giphy3

Sookie St. James from Gilmore Girls– Does constant bustling around a busy professional kitchen, wielding cast iron skillets, whipping things by hand, etc. count for fitness? I love to cook and I would love to be on Sookie’s level. Plus, even though Michel will never admit it, she kicked his ass at arm wrestling.

T5W: Favorite Side Character Ships!

June 14th: Side Ships
— Tell us your favorite relationships that don’t involve the protagonist!

**Warning: Some strong language ahead in this post, if anyone’s bothered by that.**

Honestly, I’m not much of a shipper, and when I do ship, it’s usually a canon ship for main characters. (Also, I’m kind of cheating with one, and seriously cheating with another of these, but the serious cheat is the ship I’ll go down with, damn it!)

But, these are a few I came up with, in no particular order…

(All the covers link to the goodreads page for the book)

256683Magnus Bane & Alec Lightwood (from The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare)

These two, ugh. They were why I mostly finished the series (I couldn’t actually make it through City of Holy Fuck This is Long Heavenly Fire, and I literally just skimmed it to get the basics because I was so done with that series), and I love them. They are my precious book children and I want them to be happy.

3Dean Thomas & Seamus Finnigan (from the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling)

Ok, this is one of the only non-canon ships I’ve ever had, but I’m still including it because a) I actually ship it, b) it’s a side-characters-ship, and c) it’s such a popular ship it might as well be canon. Like, Devon Murray even tweeted about how Dean & Seamus could get married in Ireland a couple of years ago when gay marriage was legalized.

8490112Zuzana Nováková & Mikolas Vavra (from the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series by Laini Taylor)

I haven’t read this in years, but I remember liking these two and wishing we’d seen more of them. (Also, I’ve only read the first two books, and I barely remember anything from the first book now :/ )

41865Jasper Hale & Alice Cullen (from The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer)

I can not believe I have a ship from those god awful books, considering how much I hated them, but the thing is, all the side characters were so much more interesting than Boring Bella and Exasperating Edward. (I’m sorry, Twilight fans, but the books were not for me, and while I hated the books, I don’t have any bad feelings about the people who did enjoy them.)

And now, my big cheat for this week…

22055262Holland Vosjik & HAPPINESS, DAMN IT (from the Shades of Magic series by V.E. Schwab)

Do I need to say more about this one?

What are some of your favorite side ships?

Fandom Mashups: May 28th

fandom mashup.png

This is a weekly meme created by Lunar Rainbows. Every week there’s a new scenario and you choose 5 characters from 5 different fandoms to complete the task.

The topic this week is: “Those patient Hufflepuffs are true and unafraid of toil” – Pick 5 characters from other fandoms that you think would fit in well in Hufflepuff House!

My picks:

giphy4

The 11th Doctor from Doctor Who. I immediately think “Hufflepuff” when I think of him but I can’t really explain why.

Rhy Maresh from V.E. Schwab’s Shades of Magic series. I had a difficult time choosing a ‘puff from the SoM series because I think there were a few, but I finally settled on Rhy because he was so dedicated and loyal to his people and everyone he loved.

giphy5

Dr. Miranda Bailey from Grey’s Anatomy. This was another fandom I struggled to choose just one character from, but I went with Bailey because she’s such a mom-friend/boss. She’s fiercely loyal to and protective of her family and friends, and she’s not afraid of hard work. She also must have had the patience of a saint to deal with some of the things she put up with.

giphy6

Garth Fitzgerald from Supernatural. Oh, Garth, my precious child. Garth was another loyal and patient character I instantly thought of as a Hufflepuff.

giphy8

Henry Mills from Once Upon a Time. Honestly, OUAT was hard for me because I feel like most of the characters could be sorted into different houses depending on the moment. Some say all the Charmings are Hufflepuffs, but I really think Henry demonstrates the traits of a ‘puff best.

Agree/Disagree? Who do you think would be sorted into Hufflepuff?

T5W: Favorite Minor Characters

May 24th: Favorite Minor Characters
–Minor characters are less than a sidekick or a side character (but not in our hearts!)

I got too caught up in trying to decide who was a minor character and who was a side character, so I’ve been stressing about this for days. Finally, I just decided to go with the ones I initially thought of and be done with it. So, in no particular order, here we go…

3682

Brigid (The Gemma Doyle Trilogy by Libba Bray)– She was the housekeeper at Spence Academy and I adored her. I thought she was amusing, but also kind of like a stern aunt or something.

6944032

Tabitha Devereaux (The Chronicles of 6696602Nick/Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon)– I don’t really remember when she shows up, but I think it’s in the first book. I also can’t remember how big of a character she was in either series, oops :/ I just remember that I really liked her.

3

Oliver Wood (Harry Potter seris by J.K. Rowling)– There were so many great characters, minor and major and side, to choose from from the Harry Potter books, so I honestly just randomly picked one minor one I liked. I’m not even sure why I liked Wood so much, but I think his obsession with quidditch was kind of comedic relief.

9460487

Horace Somnusson (Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children series by Ransom Riggs)– Full disclosure: I can’t remember how much we see him in the series :/ I want to say he’s like on the line between side and minor character, depending on where you are in the series, but I’m including him anyway. I thought Horace was interesting, and I remember wishing we’d learned more about him in the trilogy.

22055262

Tieren (The Shades of Magic series by V.E. Schwab)– I almost used Hastra, but I think Hastra is more of a side character? Anyway, I liked Tieren and was interested enough in him to wish we saw a lot more of him.

Do you have any favorite minor characters?

Top 5 Wednesday: Books that Would Make Good Video Games

April 12th: Books That Would Make Good Video Games
–Since I’ve been in video game hell (in a good way) for the past year, this topic is timely. Remember, not all video games are action games! The Sims has proven that 🙂

Confession time: I don’t play many video games. I want to, but I am so bad at basically anything that isn’t Nintendo (and I suck at plenty of Nintendo games, too). So, I’m really unqualified for this topic, but I’m giving it a shot :/

22055262

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab– Ok, I think it would be so freaking cool to explore this universe and play as your favorite character.

2343715610194157

Anything from Leigh Bardugo’s Grisha-verse– I want to be a Grisha! Or break into the most secure prison in the world, or…Well, basically I want to do anything in that universe.

20170302_053540 (2)

Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling– Yeah, they already exist, but I think most of us can agree that they could have been better. I want to actually take classes and stuff.

3682

Libba Bray’s Gemma Doyle trilogy– Magic! Victorian boarding school! Girls rebelling! Mystery! I may be alone in wanting this, but I still want it.

9361589

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern– How would this work? Could it work? I honestly don’t know. It’s been a few years since I read it, but I remember thinking at some point after reading it that I would like to play a game based on it.

What are some books you think would make good video games?
